Challenge
The business held multiple high-profile licensing agreements with both global and domestic brands, each with varying terms, rights, and renewal cycles. While commercially valuable, these agreements introduced complexity around compliance, margin control, and brand protection. Without structured oversight, the business risked missed obligations, unprofitable ranges, and reputational exposure — all of which could impact strategic value and investor confidence.
Approach
I led a full commercial review of the licensing portfolio, analysing key terms including royalty rates, product line restrictions, marketing commitments, and audit clauses. I worked closely with sales, design, and operations teams to align product development with contract limitations, ensuring both brand integrity and margin protection.
Alongside this, I introduced lifecycle visibility into budgeting and forecasting processes — mapping when agreements expired, renewal trigger points, and licensing seasonality. I also led responses to licensor audits and ensured all internal systems were aligned for compliance. Where appropriate, I renegotiated terms or restructured agreements to create more commercially sustainable positions.
