Challenge
We were entering a critical phase of growth — new products were in development, and the ambitions were bold. But realising them required capital. The challenge wasn’t just raising funds — it was telling a credible story to investors, managing risk perceptions, and aligning multiple stakeholders on both sides of the table. We were targeting VCs, angels, and institutions with a mixed funding structure that included both equity and convertible debt, so clarity, control, and confidence were essential.

Approach
I led the financial modelling from the ground up — not just a headline forecast, but a dynamic model with scenario planning, assumptions clearly mapped, and investor-focused outputs. I established the data room and tightened financial controls to ensure our materials stood up to scrutiny. Alongside this, I worked closely with the CEO to craft the pitch deck — translating strategy into a story that would resonate with investors.

To strengthen the appeal to early-stage investors and improve tax efficiency, I also coordinated the company’s EIS and SEIS registrations, working with advisors to secure advance assurance. This provided investors with the confidence that qualifying tax reliefs would be available, reducing perceived risk and increasing potential returns.

I was on the front line of investor conversations, fielding questions around risk, burn, valuation, and long-term return. There were complex decisions to navigate, including founder dilution and the terms of the convertible notes. I worked closely with legal and advisory teams to ensure the structure was both funder-friendly and future-proof. In parallel, I also structured a multi-year trading finance facility to support working capital — giving us the operational flexibility to manage supplier terms, production cycles, and liquidity needs while scaling. Post-raise, I stayed actively involved, attending monthly board meetings and maintaining investor confidence through clear, consistent reporting.
